Colorado Tax NotificationAs noted in the Y! Store Blog, Colorado is now implementing a number of new requirements on online retailers that sell to anyone in Colorado. Information must be provided to the customer at the time of purchase, reports to Colorado at the end of the year, and notifications sent to every Colorado customer at the end of the year, for any business selling more than $100,000 in revenue. Quoted from the Y! Store Blog:
Merchants may access a copy of the new regulation on the Colorado Department of Revenue web site. A recent article from E-Commerce Times provides a summary of the new requirements.
In order to help store owners, Your Store Wizards has created a script which you are free to use in your store to automate displaying a message for only your Colorado customers (those with a billing state of Colorado). For an extra charge, we can also help provide customized installations, layout, etc. To install simply copy the information below into Checkout Manager. Go to your Store Editor, Editor Settings, Checkout Manager. Then click on Page Configuration, and then your Order Confirmation Tab. In the HTML Head Section box, put the information from the box below, as is. You can click in the box below to select the text and then right click and use copy or press Ctrl-C (in windows): Then copy the text from the box below and place in your Page Message box. You can modify the text and CSS to your specifications. The text is an example, and you should not consider it as legally approved. You will want to insert your store name and information where appropriate, and rewrite the text to complete the Colorado requirements. If you want to test in Checkout Manager's preview, you can change the reference to yswStateTaxMessage.js to yswStateTaxMessage-test.js, but make sure to change back before publishing. The test file checks for California instead of Colorado since Yahoo's preview has a California address. Then simply save and publish your checkout settings, and it should be live.
